Ben: Wargaming has been a large part of our lives for a while now, with Martin and I getting our first Warhammer models, when I was nearing the end of Primary School. A large part of our collecting was made up of Games Workshop products, due to availability and dominance in the market. This was the case until we hit university, when moving into the big city (Aberdeen, which for us country folks is virtually a metropolis!) we were introduced to Confrontation/Ragnarok (sadly no longer around) and Warmachine.
After a few years of working for Games Workshop, down South, I moved back, and after selling all my GW armies (there were a lot!), I was on the look out for new games. At this point we picked up Malifaux (being back in its 1.5 edition at this point). My first crew was a metal Ophelia set, back when she was a lowly Henchman/woman/She-Gremlin!
Although we've played many different systems since, buying, trying (sometimes missing this step) then selling on again, we're back to Malifaux, and I'm back to Ophelia!
Infinity is the latest purchase in our collection, although this is a revisit, but this time we've played a game so were already doing better! The future looks bright!
Sean: 17 years ago I moved to a new school where I met a boy called Martin, we became friends and he introduced me to his hobby of wargaming specifically at that time Warhammer and 40K), and it's been downhill ever since!
Over the year we have tried several games from Epic through to Cyperbunk through to Confrontation. I've lost track of the number of systems we've played and the number of games we've played.
At present I'm only playing four different systems, they are,
1- Firestorm Armada, where my force is Directorate (who in their present colour scheme look like Star Treks Federation!)
2- Flames of War, I have about 2000+ points of British (6th Guards Armoured Brigade) and about 3500+ points of Germans (752 Static Infantry Division and 2nd Panzer Division Armoured Reconnaissance)
3- Malifaux, I am collecting the Outcast faction, with 3 Masters at the moment, only 4 more to go...
4- Infinity, I wasn't given much choice here, I was told by Martin that he had bought some PanOceana and that Ben was wanting to buy Red Veil, I could get one of the forces from that if I was interested in the game, but Ben wanted Yu Jing, so I would have Haqqislam (same way I ended up with Directorate in Firestorm Armada). I couldn't help but smile at the delightful irony, I am a big fan of the Crusades and the various military religious orders that have existed, even having a heavily themed Bretonnian army in Warhammer, based on the second crusade and the film Kingdom of Heaven (my battle pilgrims didn't carry a dead knight, instead pulled a small cart with a giant gold cross on it). Collecting an Islamic force was certainly going to be a big change for me.
The access to an army with reference to such historic units was too good to miss, Hashashins (the original assassins , now called Hassassin by Infinity), Zhayedan (elite shock cavalry of the Sassanian army) and Janissaries (the Christian bodyguard of the Ottoman Sultan), I think I'll have fun with this army.
Wait, what's that? Oh dear I think Martin is approaching with another idea...!
Martin: So, I guess from the two previous entries it is clear that I am the First Amongst Equals, the Great Instigator, the Evolved Intelligence if you will... I started wargaming when I was 12 when a guy in my class sold me some Games Workshop High Elves and goblins so he could buy chips. I was hooked, and naturally did what I'd spent 9 years doing... convincing Ben to follow my glorious lead. Poor Sean was caught in my Machiavellian web soon after, Thus followed 40k, Confrontation, nearly every Specialist Game created, Magic: The Gathering, the Warhammer TCG game, Warmachine/Hordes.... All before I was 25! The trend continued through our time working in the GW and has led us to this, Infinity. Naturally I got first pick of the factions, being the older brother and best friend respectively which has made sure that I am the Hyperpower, with the coolest models, largest range and obviously the best gaming ability. So, without further ado, step on board and join us as we make our mark on the Human Sphere!
Jono: Bit hard to follow mister modest there but I'll try. I've been wargaming since I was 9 and was randomly gifted a box of Space Wolves for Christmas. From there my joy in making model planes escalated into the realms of Warhammer and more Space Marines than I care to admit. I met Martin and Ben during their times at GW Aberdeen and I (must reluctantly admit) learned a lot from them about painting and modelling as well as the wider world of games. After a half-decade stint in Glasgow for uni where I fell off the face of wargaming (despite somehow managing to continue to build my Eldar army - six years and only three games!) before being dragged back under the horse upon my return to the Granite City. After some hard arm twisting (he lies) I was roped into the world of Malifaux, but my desire to paint power armour grew too strong and I fell into the Horus Heresy. So if you need me I'll either be crying about how hard med school is or crying over why I chose to paint yellow ninjas or sea green Space Marines.
